Documentary Film Seeking Families for Children's First Smartphone Experience

Casting nationwide for a documentary feature film!

Are you considering buying your child their first smartphone? The directors are looking for families across the USA who plan to purchase a phone for their child (ages 8 to 14) in early 2026. This film will capture the moment when kids receive their first smartphones from their families.

About the Project

• The film will follow four families before, during, and after their child receives their first phone (the phone will be provided).
• Families representing a wide range of viewpoints about smartphones are encouraged to apply, whether you are cautious about technology or a digital enthusiast.

Rate

• Families will receive a brand new iPhone or Android phone (exact model TBD).
• A fee of $2500 will be paid for the use of the footage captured by the smartphone in the finished film.
• Families do not incur any costs; this rate is provided if selected for filming. There is no payment for submitting or auditioning.

Filming Schedule

• Pre-Phone Life: Filming will take place for 1 week per family before the phone is given.
• New Phone Life | Phone Usage: Scheduled and coordinated filming times throughout the month.
• The production team will work with each family to create a filming schedule during the production month.
• The phone app will document all phone usage throughout the month.
• It is acceptable if some teens have an older sibling who already has a phone.
• Parents will have access to review recorded footage before it is released to the filmmakers.
