Project Overview

Casting for the world premiere of "Les Enfants Terribles," a new adaptation of Jean Cocteau’s provocative novella.

Synopsis

Paul and Elisabeth, two emotionally sheltered teenage siblings, create a secluded world filled with their own rules and rituals. As they compete for love and dominance, they engage in cruel games with each other and their devoted friends, Gerard and Agatha. As reality intrudes and their fantasies unravel, the boundaries of their world collapse, leading to a tragic spiral of betrayals.

Rehearsal Schedule

  • August 3 to September 3: Saturdays & Sundays from 2 PM to 5 PM, Mondays from 7 PM to 10 PM (possible additional weeknight rehearsals as needed)
  • September 5, 6, and 7: 12 PM to 6 PM at the theater
  • September 9: Dress rehearsal from 7 PM to 10 PM at the theater.

Performance Schedule

  • September 10 to October 4: Thursdays to Saturdays at 7 PM, Sundays at 2 PM

Compensation

  • $500 stipend
  • Non-union or Actors Equity

Self-tape monologue from sides is highly encouraged. Interested applicants will be contacted for in-person callbacks in Brooklyn.

Paul

Paul Paul is 16 years old (played by an older actor). He is secretly gay and does not yet know it himself, maddened by his unrequited love for a boy named Dargelos. Paul and his older sister Elisabeth largely raised themselves and are emotionally co-dependent. They have many games and rituals. They love each other but also spend most of their time trying to win the games. Paul can be whip smart and biting, and then suddenly fragile and vulnerable.

Gerard

Gerard, 14 years old (played by an older actor), is an innocent who admires Paul and loves Elisabeth. He wears his heart on his sleeve and yearns for acceptance. His unrequited love for Elisabeth and imagined friendship with Paul blinds him to the abuse Paul and Elisabeth inflict on him.

Agatha
