About the Project

A local weight loss support group meets every Saturday in a high school gym. When a corporate visit and a sentient talking scale named SCALE disrupt their routine, the group spirals into chaos. As weigh-ins become theatrical, infomercials interrupt reality, and a strange new soup begins to change people, Body Negative offers a surreal critique of diet culture. This play blends absurdity with stark realism, exploring the meaning of reclaiming one's body in a world that constantly tries to sell it back.

Schedule

• Rehearsals: Begin either the weekend of JUNE 13 or JUNE 20 and run through JULY 5.
  • Thursdays & Fridays: 6 PM - 10 PM
  • Saturdays & Sundays: 11 AM - 6 PM
  • Note: This is an ensemble production; the cast will be called for most rehearsals.
• Technical Rehearsals: Monday, JULY 6 through Thursday, JULY 9.
• Performances: JULY 10 - 12 at Speyer Hall in University Settlement, Lower East Side.

Compensation

All performers will receive a $400 stipend at the end of the production.

Submission Deadline: May 30. In-person callbacks will be conducted the first week of June in NYC.
